Repeat Prescriptions

These can be requested by telephoning the surgery on 028 9331 5837 between 09:00am and 12:30pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively you may use the prescription collection and delivery service operated by the following pharmacies in the Carrickfergus area:

  • The Health Centre Pharmacy, Carrickfergus Health Centre
  • Medicare Pharmacy (Sunnylands, Victoria or High Street)
  • Boots Pharmacy, High Street

When using any of these pharmacies, please use the prescription order form that is issued with your repeat prescription. Please give at least 48 hours’ notice and remember to include the following:

  • your name
  • address
  • date of birth
  • name of medication

This information is outlined on the repeat order form issued with prescriptions. Repeat prescriptions can be collected after 16:30pm the following day. Alternatively, they can be picked up at one of the above pharmacies 48 hours after completing the re-order form at the pharmacy. Only those items due for renewal will be issued upon request.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Under normal circumstances, please do not ask the doctor to process the issue of a routine repeat prescription during a surgery consultation. Please place your order at the front desk before or after your appointment with the doctor so that it can then be processed in line with practice policy.

Guidance on Prescriptions after seeing a Private Practitioner

In Northern Ireland, most patients get their medical treatment from the Health and Social Care (HSC) service which means that you don’t need to pay anything for the treatment which includes:

  • Seeing a healthcare professional such as a GP for advice and/or treatment
  • Getting a prescription written for any medicines that you need
  • Getting the prescription dispensed by a community pharmacist
  • Receiving other treatment such as physiotherapy or having surgery

However sometimes patients may choose to have a private consultation and/or treatment. This is treatment that is provided outside the health service and usually has to be paid for. Wasting Medicines

Help Wipe Out Waste! by reviewing Multiple Prescription Usage and you could help Fund other Necessary NHS Treatments.

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen – Do you really need a prescription for over-the-counter medicines?

In Northern Ireland we spend more than £8 million annually on medicines which can easily be bought in local pharmacies and other retail outlets. This could pay for: Hip replacement operations, more treatments for breast cancer and more community nurses. Click the button below for further information and statistics.
